Balance and equity are different
Balance reflects closed results. Equity also reflects open profit or loss. Crest’s loss rule checks equity, so an open losing position can reach the floor before a trade closes.
Work through a 50K example
Start with $50,000 and a fixed floor of $48,000. If closed net profit is $600 and open P&L is −$900, equity is $49,700. That leaves $1,700 above the floor. Touching $48,000 would be a breach; zero remaining room is not compliant.
Profit does not move this floor
If equity later reaches $52,000, the fixed floor remains $48,000. A trailing model works differently, so never transfer assumptions from another program. Read the precise rule and whether it uses intraday or end-of-day values.
Position limits are a separate check
Under the Crest conversion, two standard contracts and ten micros equal three standard equivalents, well inside the 15-contract 50K limit. Position-limit compliance does not guarantee that a trade stays within the equity limit. Use the calculator to examine both independently.
